Animation playback gets glitchy at high frame rates

  1. Before 1.4.2, I had no issues with playback on 1080p 24fps animations. But recently, whenever I play an animation at high frame rates like this, some of the frames tend to jump to different positions in playback.

I have a 2019 iPad Air running the latest iPadOS, with FlipaClip at version 1.4.5. I hope you can help!

Duplicates 25
What does it mean if my animations frame rate slows down? I animate at 24 fps and it s me that my device is running slow, what could I do to fix this?

I'm worried that it will affect the video file when I upload it. I'm working on a Christmas cartoon and I need an answer asap.

Random Frames Keep Appearing

Sooooo I opened FlipaClip to work on a project, and when playing the preview, random frames seemed to be moved around. So like, frame 5 would show up between frame 1 and 2 if that makes sense. I checked the order of the frames in the frame viewer, and everything was where it was meant to be? I was worried I did something wrong, but I’ve tried everything I could think of to fix it and it just isn’t working. I’ve seen a few other people with this problem, and considering the update came out a few days ago, perhaps it’s a bug from that?
Either way, please try to fix this soon!

When re playing animation random frames pop up

I went to watch my animation back and random frames popped up. I went through and the frames that weren’t meant to show up weren’t in any frames.

frame skipping

when i press play on my animations, it skips over 1 frame instead of playing the full thing

Why is it only animating every other frame?

In my new stuff, it’s only animating every other frame help

When watching my animation it keeps on flashing white
Playback Bug

While trying to play back an animation I made, I noticed that at some points the frame that was supposed to play became a previous frame, making it glitchy and difficult to see if I’ve made anything incorrectly. It would help me (and the others, if anyone is also experiencing this) a lot if this could get resolved. Thanks! (I use iPadOS 14.0.1)

When playing the animation back it flickers back to random frames at 25 FPS

Flickering back to random frames when trying to play the animation.

I’m using 25FPS and have an iPad Pro

Frames glitching out

This morning, FlipaClip was working fine and my frames were fine. After I downloaded the recent update in the app store, however (Update 1.4.3/1.4.2, if the app store is correct) and I tried to play the animation, the frames began to glitch to previous frames, lag, etc. I checked the other animations, and it seems as though this is happening with them, too. (mostly with animations at 24 fps). The frame glitching does not happen in 'movies', only in 'projects'. I believe this could be because of the new update, as this was working fine only a few minutes before I updated. I can't animate like this, please try and fix this!

Animation bug

When I’m trying to make my animation when I play it it goes back and repeats previous frames while in the middle of playing the animation, for example, I’m in the middle part of the animation and it will play the first frame. Please help and answer how I can fix this.

Slow FPS on Preview

I'm making an animation in a 1920 x 1080 screen, with 12 fps. Whenever I preview it, it's slow, but doesn't show a "FPS drop because of device" message. Is there a fix to this?

My animation keeps glitching and it makes it hard to animate. The frames are all over the place and I don’t know how to fix it.

For example, When i’m halfway into my animation and I play it, It always shows the wrong frame. This is happening on my iPhone, I don’t know if its because of that or if its a bug. If it is, can you please fix it?

Glitch when playing animation

So there’s a glitch that I have to deal with pretty much every day on FlipaClip and it’s really annoying. When I play my animation while working on it, it glitches and shows random frames at random times. Now, I like to just watch it and having a glitch like this causes a lot of problems when previewing it. Please, please fix this!

Laggy animation playback preview

after about 100 frames my animation gets really slow and laggy. Is there a way you can make it faster? And maybe you can add a layer with opacity levels and a duplicate layer (that duplicate a selected layer) and I saw you added 3 more layers, and thats fantastic! But is there a way to have unlimited layers? Sorry for the amount of questions, but im so curious! This app is well made and fantastic too!

Frames getting glitchy

Hi, hello- this issue barely started last night. But when I play my animation(s) (to review them and such), some frames seem to appear on other frames. Like, let’s say I have a character showing towards the middle of the animation. Well, then some words from the beginning appear overlaying that character. I have no clue what’s going on- but it’s starting to get sorta-kinda annoying? And it’s messing with me.

Other info that needs to be stated(?)
I own an 11in IPad Pro.

IPad is running on 13.3.1

Flipaclip version 1.4.3

I expected it to stop glitching out after I had updated my iPad last night, but I think it’s just the app now since it keeps doing this when I play the animation. (And yes I checked the frames to see if this was me accidentally copying and pasting the frames, but nope..)

Animation plays another frame

pls fix this bug, every time I play my animation it glitches and plays another frame

Buggy Layers

Opened up the app just like normally, and for some reason whenever I play an animation, some of the layers on a frame will switch out with others when playing, or just in general lag behind while everything else checks out fine. This is really annoying me whenever I tried to check if the whole animation looked okay.

Bug when i play my animation

When i play my animation, it starts mixing a bunch of random frames and I can’t see how its going

My flips keep glitching when I press play

So I’m doing my animation and when I press play different flips are FLIPING like the beginning can be like a ball then there’s like a clip of a cat then it gets back to the ball. It’s so weird like every time I press play there’s like a glitch. Also when I erase one thing ,get to another flip, go back to the previous one ,What I erased comes back and this keeps going over and over again.

Glitchy Animation with Fps Over 20

I don't know if this is a bug, but every time I have an animation with over 20 fps, the animation would get glitchy. One of my friends also have been experiencing this and told me to reduce the fps, which is a real bummer. Is there any explanation to this? I'm not mad, just a bit confused..

Animation playing bug
While playing your animation, it usually shows the whole thing but
While playing it NOW, playing iit it glitches, showing the frames previous. It happens a lot.
Weird playback and audio glitch.

When I use playback and see my animation then add a few frames or something, when I try to play it again nothing happens. It just freezes on the first frame and I can’t hear the audio anymore. I tried an animation without audio and it played just fine. And after lowering FPS. Still won’t work.

Live playback preview slow and drops frames

Hello,

Just because you guys are not busy ! ;-)
I have a Samsung note pro 12, Kit Kat.
Every time I playback the animation, no matter how much frames it has and what the speed is, the play back is choppy and it drops frames. Not sure if I am the only one !

Cheers

Fps keeps dropping in preview

Hey thanks for the feedback! So what is laggy the animation playback preview? If that is the case let me explain what's going on. :)

So FlipaClip caches most frequently used frames into memory for really fast access. However, when we reach a limit on the amount of memory that can be used things do get a little slower. The reason is that reading an image from file takes time. So the more layers you have the longer a frame will take to load. So when you have a lot of frames they can't all be cached so live previewing slows down.

We have done miracles with speed in this area and we aren't stopping there. We are currently working on new methods to further improve the app speed for this area.

So with that in mind. We limit the number of layers for now since more layers means slower app performance. But this is something we are working on and will add more layers in the near future.

In the meantime, you can try to play the animation at a lower FPS, that should resolve your problem for now. Also, try to disable canvas rotation and remove FlipaClip from battery optimization because not enough RAM on your device can cause this issue.

Hey, thanks for providing your feedback about this particular area.

When the FPS value is lower than the value set under the project settings it means the frame images are not loading fast enough. The main reason is that reading images from file takes a little while, and some devices are faster at this than others. Also, the more layers you have for a frame it means the more images it needs to load.

Because of this issue we are developing a new method to deal with frame image loading that on some devices will more than double the current loading speeds. We are shooting for the next update to add this feature. ;)

There are two types of movie playback preview you can do. One, swipe on the frames timeline and second pressing the movie preview button. These two different playback options behave differently.

Swipe preview will drop frames along the way if the swipe is really fast. The play preview button option will not drop any frames. It will play them as fast as possible to match the projects FPS setting. In some cases the preview FPS will be slower because loading frames would be loaded from file and not the frames cache.

As I mentioned on this post we are looking at ways to improve the speed which frames are loaded and shown to minimize movie playback slowness and frame drop. For the reason I explained this is not a bug.

Quote from Patrick Hawkey
If you have 2 or 3 layers enabled, you can disable the backround layers and just concentrate on the animation layer, this speeds things up a bit.

Exporting to movie, it'll Play at the correct Speed.

Thanks for the feedback. You are right disabling the bg would speed up things a bit more. At the moment the bottle neck for us is actually loading the frame layers. Blending the layers isn't really an issue, it's just the file loading process. However, we are already experimenting and trying different things to double up on speed if possible.

Hey, thanks for your feedback. Unfortunately on some devices live previewing of a project can be a bit slow causing some frames to be dropped during playback. We know there are some areas we can improve here and will be doing so very soon. So we will provide an option to lower the canvas size allowing huge speed improvements.
