Slow strokes on iPad

as much as I love FlipaClip, there is one event that I find VRY annoying.

The strokes o latest ios on an iPad 12.9 gets slow before they hit the final Apple Pencil tip.

There is a certain amount of lag that prevents the user feel comfortable with the sketching experience into the app.

Please note that this is already fixed in other apps like procreate in which NO lagging is apparent.

Can’t we have eventually a real-time representation of Apple Pencil strokes without any kind of delay/lag ?

Pleeaaassseeeeee

The app is perfect it is this feature -along with undo/redo gestures- that I am missing still

Duplicates 4
Draw lag on first gen iPad Pro

I use a first generation iPad Pro (12’’ screen) and after I’ve been sketching for a little bit the app begins to lag whenever I draw a new line, making sketching and inking uncomfortable. The app also begins to slow down as well. This has been an issue for me since I got the iPad around a year ago, I’m not sure if it’s a software bug or hardware issue. Procreate works fine, for what it’s worth.

Apple Pencil Delay when Brushing

When I use my Apple Pencil FlipaClips strokes are delayed and it makes it incredibly uncomfortable to sketch and do lineart. This occurs especially when I increase the speed. Does anyone else have this problem? How do I fix it? T-T

Lagging response when using Apple Pen

Using iPad Pro and Apple Pencil. Recently it has been lagging more when drawing or using any of the other tools. Very frustrating when it takes a couple of seconds to see what I have draw appear on the canvas.

apple pencil laggy

this is an apple pencil 1 and an ipad air 3

i have tried disabling canvas rotation

the canvas size is not 1080p

it doesn’t do this all the time, only occasionally when my palm is on screen

@JONA,

According to the latest ipadOs,Pencil kit api, offers significant Apple Pencil speed improvement.

In fact according to this article:

https://9to5mac.com/2019/06/06/pencilkit-apple-wwdc/

The new APIs require just three lines of code for developers to get the same low latency, UI, and tool palette that Apple uses for Pencil. That includes the drop from 20 milliseconds to 9 milliseconds latency that Apple announced during its unveiling of iPadOS.

You may view from apple’s Site link below how to do that:

https://developer.apple.com/documentation/pencilkit/drawing_with_pencilkit

Is there ANY. Nance to make flipaclip lighting fast after all?

PLEASE KEEP US POSTED

Hey! Sorry, not responding to your other post. So we are working on a much-improved draw engine. The main focus is to improved response time and to use all Apple Pencil features! ETA... well can't give any but once any news is available I'll make sure to let you know here.

Hopefully not to take away from Tristratos's issue, but I am also seeing a delay on my google pixelbook strokes when the app is fullscreened, the default window size does not lag. There was about a weeks time maybe a month or two ago (Don't quote me), where the lag disappeared, but then returned after that.

@Jona,

So many app updates, still the fundamental issue with strokes being lagged using Apple Pencil as shown in

https://www.dropbox.com/s/ufd88f2zj8knpkq/flipAClip.mov?dl=0

Is NOT fixed

Should we expect ANY update on this soon?

Your response is highly appreciated of what to expect

Oh man! I apologize not getting this any sooner! :(

I have created an internal ticket that will be in my face... I have tried this on the latest ipad pro and couldn't reproduce. I have seen your video. Thank you for providing that. I'll get my hands on a 1st gen iPad pro to look into this!

I am having a similar problem. It's very frustrating.

I've found the following scenarios:

  1. If ONLY my stylus is touching and no part of my hand, there's NO lag.
  2. If i rest the palm of my hand down FIRST then draw with the stylus, there's NO lag.
  3. But if i start drawing and my palm touches from time to time, there IS lag.

The frustrating thing is while drawing the palm/heel of your hand will come on and off the surface. So it's easy for the lag to come in and out. I don't think it's natural to always draw with your hand hovering and not touching the screen. Also unrealistic to place your hand down first before the stylus touches.

I've also tried the different options (stylus only, stylus and touch) and I don't see a difference between the two. It's a huge drawback for drawing. I would try reinstalling the app but i'm afraid of losing my projects.

I'm using a first generation ipad pro.

Thank you for providing these steps! Really helpful!

I'm uploading a new beta build with a potential fix. However, I'm not sure if it will fix it or not as I haven't been able to reproduce the issue. I'm waiting to get an iPad PRO 1 gen to test. If you like to join the beta testers group please follow this link:

Hi Jona,

Awesome! Thanks for working on this so quick. I'll join the beta test group and let you know how it works.

Dear Jona!

THANK GOD you are still there and this thread catches your attention once more!

Indeed I noticed that when the Palm is not on screen, the strokes work with no delay as expected.

On the other hand, when the Palm is on, as you may see in the video, the strokes may get delayed quite a bit, which makes the whole experience frustrating!

It has to be noted that on the same iPad 12.9n1st gen, other apps (like procreate and even rough animator) do NOT have such an issue even if the Palm is on screen.

As drawing with palm on screen is almost essential to draw with ease and convenience, PLEASE DO FIX this nasty bug.

I just checked the latest beta available (1.3.3 -88) in testflight and the issue still exists!

PLEASE keep us posted as to when should we expect a fix to retest

Sorry to hear that Trisratos. I haven't given the beta a try yet.

Will i lose all of my projects if i install the beta?

I just downloaded bet 1.3.3 -88. I'm still having the same problem with lag.

I just tried the current build version on a more recent iPad (about a year old) and had no lag issues. This might just be a problem with 1st generation iPads.

Dear Jona,

I just tried even on latest beta 3.5 (91) on an iPad Pro 12.9 1st gen.

unfortunately the stroke lag issue still exists!

Confirmed once more that the lag takes place only when Palm is on screen as mentioned above.

PLEASE let us know if and when should we expect a fix for this
