Chromebook Input Lag (OpenGL/ Hardware Acceleration Issue?)

Device information located at the end.

I'm a big fan of this app. But for the past 6-8 months, there has been major input lag on my Chromebook device. This isn't a hardware issue, for I've used this app before. I've emailed Flipaclip 4-5 times but the issue hasn't been resolved. It seems like Flipaclip doesn't use OpenGL on android yet. They have it on IOS but havn't yet ported it over. Here is the email:

Hello Leo,

Apologies for any delay in getting back to you. We do thank you for the screen recording you've sent. Android apps running on Chrome OS is something fairly new and there seems to be a bug on the app. The reason behind this is because something was removed or added hardware acceleration to the Android app. Other apps used OpenGL for drawing and on Android we don't use that yet. We do on iOS and soon we hope to port that engine which is super fast!

Alternatively, you can check if there's a Chrome OS option to enable/disable hardware acceleration on the app. Hope this helps!

Please let us know if you need any further assistance. Thank you!

If you guys know anything that might help, please let me know. I'm eager to use the app again.

Samsung Chromebook Pro (Gen 1)

Google Chrome OS (Version 69.0.3497.95 Official Build [Beta] 64-Bit)
Heavy input lag with both touch and stylus. All other functions work fine.

Issues with Accelerated 2D Canvas, Hardware-accelerated Video Decode, and/or OpenGL/WebGl perhaps? I'm not sure. This happens every time. Wasn't always like this. Ever since one of the updates, it's been lagging heavily and I can't use the app I paid for.

Duplicates 4
missing frames in movie mode

On my chromebook when I go to movie mode, the movie is missing the first 7 frames.

Chromebook API

Even though Flips Clip runs on Chromebook, it seems like it wasn't optimized for it. There are more and more Chromebook coming out with stylus support, more so than Android phone or tablet. It seems like it would be a good idea to optimize FlipaClip for Chromebook, since Chromebook will eventually replace Android tablet.

Glitching Frames

I've been using Flipaclip on my chromebook for around a year with no issue. Lately (Even after deep cleaning my chromebook, deleting and installing the app, signing out, etc.) The frames glitch before and after I make the movie, deleting layers of the movie. I post my videos and you can clearly see the issue in them. I desperately want to keep animating but this issue is extremely disheartening.

Very laggy

it seems like there's a new problem with flipaclip every week, it's very very laggy after 1 minute of entering the project, it has no layers, no drawings, and it's not a long project so I don't know why it's lagging so much, the way it lags is that its really hard to zoom\ move the camera around and it's really getting on my nerves. I'm so confused I don't even know what to do with this app anymore. if it helps I'm using flipaclip on a Chromebook

Thanks for writing us about this! Also, sorry took half year to respond!

We are getting a Chromebook to start testing the app now that GooglePlay is officially being included with Chromebooks. We will also be testing the new draw engine which hopefully runs smoothly. It would be great if you become a beta tester so when we release a beta version with the new engine you can check it out.

we are still having an issue as well with the lag.

Hi Beth, we are really sorry for such a delay but we are close to finising new drawing engine.

Hey, it's Le, I made the original post here. Thought I'd check in to see progress. It still isn't working on my Chromebook, so I've been making do with my phone for now: here's a link. Really looking forward to when things get better, I'm itching to use a stylus again.

Hey Le, thank you again for your patience and that you are still an active user :) I watched your uploaded YouTube video and it really looks like the work of a pro! We will do our best to make an announcement here once it is resolved. Igor

I just wanted to reply and mention I've been using flipaclip on my ipad for a while and really like it but wanted a bigger canvas so I bought it on android to use on my pixelbook and was pretty sad to see how bad the lag is.

Here's a quick video of what it looks like for me https://photos.app.goo.gl/ekypN7spQK8vSJzCA

Other apps show a little bit of lag but no where close to what I get in flipaclip. I'm on ChromeOS 85 (beta) if that matters but it looks like we're waiting for a new draw engine either way.

Hi Justin, saw your video and I can understand how it can reduce the experience of animating. Thank you for understanding that we are trying our best to suit the needs of every user. Igor
